Both of these were carried out through Tiaki Engineering Consultants, where a Chartered Professional Engineer authorised the packages and signed the producer statements. The design work, the analysis and the design statements were mine.
Industrial plant work is a different problem to civil infrastructure. The layout is set by the process, the site stays operating and the existing structures often have no as built record, so a lot of the job is deciding what has to be proven on site rather than assumed on paper.
What I did on this project
- Waingawa dispatch plant replacement. Structural design verification of the plant support frame and design of the foundations, including cast in anchors where the uplift could not be carried by chemical anchors into concrete of unknown strength. Set the design basis where no standard covered the structure type, then closed the unverified assumptions with 5 hold points on site
- Commissioned a site specific geotechnical investigation rather than relying on desktop mapping
- Mount Service Centre intake hopper. Independent design verification of a baffle support frame, grizzly and hold down bolts, loaded as a bridge deck under the NZTA Bridge Manual because no New Zealand standard covers a grizzly under a tipping truck
- Imposed the operating conditions the frame depends on and recorded them as part of the design
