Roundabout construction on an arterial road, run concurrently with the Oceanbeach intersection upgrade.

A new roundabout at Welcome Bay Road and Waitaha Road, built under traffic on an arterial route. It ran at the same time as the Oceanbeach intersection upgrade, both in construction through 2024, so each week was planned around the matters that could only be settled on site.
I was Engineer’s Representative, subcontracted to Tonic Consulting as Engineer to the Contract.
On the west side of Waitaha Road the existing footpath couldn’t meet the council’s 3 per cent crossfall requirement and still tie into the driveways. I worked up a compromise detail, a maximum 6 per cent crossfall with a 2.5 m minimum width and regraded driveways, drew it up, agreed it with the council’s safety team and instructed it as a variation. The notice flagged the residents whose driveways would be cut back.
